Hello! Welcome to a brand new post where I will showing you how to paint a scalloped edge feature wall. I used this technique in our last home at Roman Bank as our children shared a bedroom. We have 1 boy and 1 girl so we chose a neutral green colour and I used painting techniques to define each space. As I wanted to give our daughter Noa’s side of the wall a more feminine look, I decided to go for a Scalloped edge wall.

What you need to paint a scalloped edged wall:
- Paint
- A paintbrush (and a roller for the main part of the wall if you wish)
- Masking tape
- A bowl or something circular in the scallop size that you want.
- A Pencil
- A piece of card
- A somewhat steady hand
The first step is to decide how high you want the scallop wall to be and then use masking tape to mask off a straight vertical line. Next you need to use masking tape to mask off a semi circle on whatever round thing you are using as a template. I used a bowl and placed the tape right across the middle of it. Then place your template/bowl up against the wall making sure your masked line on the template lines up with the masked line on the wall. draw around your template with a pencil and continue this process of lining up the masking tapes so that each time the semi circles are touching and then drawing around the template. If you come to a corner you can draw around your template onto a piece of card and cut it out. You then have a template that you can fold to fit into the corners.
Once your pattern is all drawn out remove the masking tape from the wall and use a paint brush to paint your scallop edges. Go slow and use a good quality paintbrush as you will have more control over the bristles than you would with a cheaper one. Once all the edges are painted in you can continue with the paintbrush or use a roller to paint the bulk of the wall. I used two coats of paint in the colour Good Earth by Valspar. You can see all of these steps in the video below.
So that is how you paint a scalloped edge wall. Honestly this is such a simple technique that makes such a great feature. It’s also budget friendly as you’re only paining half of the wall. It’s a great way to define sections of a room like we did in our kids shared bedroom. This particular video is shared as a reel on my Instagram account @liannehempsallhome and I would love for you to head over there and give me a follow. I hope this post has been helpful in sharing just how achievable this method is and if I’ve inspired you to give it a go please let me know down below in the comments or by tagging me on instagram.
I’ll be back with a new post soon, have a great day!
